Mother Nature Blew Me Away
So, i guess i owe you a post on how Joyce saves Mother Nature *superhero theme*....
Alright, i didn't exactly saved her but i did my part in helping her survive longer.
Didn't exactly know what i've signed up for at first but it was a worthwhile trip in the end.

And so the journey begins departing the city off to Cape Jervis, which is a 2hr drive on a whiny bumpy road with phone signals getting smaller and smaller and next thing you know, zilch. And off we head to the island by ferry which is another 1hr ride to Penneshaw. It was 8pm by the time we arrived at the island and there were nothing to see on the ride to the dinner and to the lodge because....it was pitch black.
We stayed at Flinders Chase which, if you look at the map, is the opposite end of Penneshaw.
Fun facts:
- KI is seven times bigger than Singapore.
- The next land you see from the west of Flinders Chase across the Indian Ocean is South Africa.
- If you head straight down south (not sure about the nautical miles), you'll end up in South Pole.
With nothing much to do on the first night, it's bonding/getting-to-know you session with a mini bonfire. How AWESOME? (not forgetting booze and snacks)
Sadly, the generator decided to stop functioning and someone jokingly said the owner of the land decided to head to the pub (because it's Friday night) instead of powering the generator, we were total darkness. But i was amazed by the Milky Way i saw in the sky amongst the stars contradicting the darkness. It was the prettiest site ever.
If you haven't seen Milky Way, this is what it looked like.. (and this was literally what i saw)
Anywayz, the day starts at 6am. Breakfast. Clean kitchen. Off we go at 7.30am to Cygnet Valley which is about an hr drive. By 9am, we were planting trees like there's no tomorrow. That day itself, we've planted 36,000 plants which suggests that averagely, 5000 plants per person. And throughout the three day event with almost 400 volunteers over 40 hectare of land, we've all planted 80,000 plants.

For our effort, we were treated to a good dinner that night (still wondering where those funds came from..)
Next day was touring day..where we drove across the island from the north to the south and then to the east before we depart at Penneshaw and bump out way back to civilization.

A fairly wicked three days escapade.
Three days without any source of technology and communications.
Three days of meeting lovely people, bitches at first sight and camping poopers.
Three days is all it takes to make changes.
At least, it makes me feel better now that i had given back to Mother Nature considering my carbon footprint is beyond unbelievably high this year (talking about being a frequent flyer...pfffft!)
